Presented almost entirely in split-screen frames, the audacious TRACEY FRAGMENTS is one of the best forays into the troubled teen sub-genre in recent memory. Traumatized by the disappearance of her younger brother, social outcast Tracey leaves her small town for the bright lights of Winnipeg. Alone and broke, she wanders the streets, encountering other, more wizened outsiders and, every once in a while, out of the corner of her eye, catching a glimpse of someone who may be her missing brother. The film shifts tones wildly, reflecting the vertiginous nature of Tracey's moods, moving from schoolgirl fantasies to quasi-surreal encounters with her remote shrink and near-catatonic parents (they seem to have crawled out of an Edgar G. Ulmer noir , by way of Aki Kaurismäki). Highly praised for its startling and innovative visual design, THE TRACEY FRAGMENTS is an unforgettable, daring look at a traumatized consciousness. Released in theatres Friday November 2nd - Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.
