“A smart, delicate and funny examination of human contradictions” (Geoff Pevere, The Toronto Star), Buchbinder’s Whole New Thing follows the precocious and sharp Emerson Thorsen (Webber, in an astounding performance) who is sent to public school after a lifetime of home schooling by his hippie parents. Though obviously intelligent, Emerson is emotionally ill-equipped to deal with his new circumstances. He immediately falls head over heels in love with Don Grant (MacIvor), his English teacher. Despite Don’s gentle protestations that he is neither interested and nor is it appropriate, Emerson refuses to take no for an answer. Driven by a profound empathy for its characters and a sly sense of humour, Whole New Thing is alternately poignant and hilarious. MacIvor co-wrote the script with Buchbinder and his performance as Don is one of his most endearing and funniest. “A coming of age film that could become a Canadian classic . . . subtle and consistently surprising” (Glenn Sumi, NOW).

Rated 14A (Coarse language, mature theme, sexual content)
